Beaufort’s Boys Tennis team remained undefeated on Monday night, defeating May River by a score of 5-1 to go 10 – 0 and claim the Regular Season Region Championship. The Eagles will now start to prepare for the start of the state playoffs, which begin next week.
May River didn’t make it easy on Beaufort, as #1 singles for the Sharks’ Liam Becker pushed Graeme Angus to the brink before Angus pulled out the victory in the tie breaker winning 7-5, 3-6 10-4. On a day when Angus didn’t have his best game, he still pushed through it, gaining the victory in the long match. At #2 singles, Tucker Martin also had a marathon match and eventually lost in the tiebreaker at the end to Said Hernandez, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7. Diego Alvarez (6-1, 6-1), Bodie Daniel (6-2, 6-1) and Griffin Stone (6-0, 6-0) all won in straight sets, as did the doubles combo of Joseph Combs and Witt Hampton (6-0, 6-0).
With the victory over May River, the Eagles managed to sweep their Region season schedule, which is very difficult to do. Beaufort now awaits their match up for next week’s first round playoff action.
